Canon Gomes puts the question where it belongs. When a man who has already taken thirteen American lives is the subject of a papal plea for clemency, the ordinary teaching of the Church is not optional background. It is the standard by which the plea is measured.

Saint Pius V ordered and promulgated the Roman Catechism. On the Fifth Commandment it states that “another kind of lawful slaying belongs to the civil authorities, to whom is entrusted power of life and death, by the legal and judicious exercise of which they punish the guilty and protect the innocent. The just use of this power, far from involving the crime of murder, is an act of paramount obedience to this Commandment which prohibits murder.” The end of the commandment is the preservation and security of human life. The punishments inflicted by the civil authority tend to that end by repressing outrage and violence.

Pius V did not treat the just execution of the guilty as an attack on human dignity. He treated it as the magistrate fulfilling the commandment. The later assertion that capital punishment is inadmissible in every case because it violates the inviolability of the person is a different claim. It does not amend the Catechism Pius V published. It simply sets it aside.

The thirteen dead are not an abstraction. They are the reason the civil authority exists in the first place. When the plea for mercy is extended to the man who took their lives, and the ordinary teaching of the Church on the magistrate’s duty is left unmentioned, the flock is left with a different order than the one Pius V handed down. Canon Gomes has named the difference. That is the service the post performs.

Semper Fi Brother and have a Blessed day Sir 🙏

It is clear that the Pope is no student of either the Bible, world history, or the truth of current events. If allowed to keep the Vatican on this path, its’s destruction will be inevitable. Perhaps this is why St. Malachi’s list of “Popes” ended before Leo?

Executions are a punishment for heinous crimes against society, its got nothing to do with Lord Jesus Christ who told us plainly to arbiter our own civil matters as a society.

Pope Leo is a muslim, as i know he is the first pope who are in Islam 😎

He's maybe confused between Guantanamo and Leavenworth.

Why should he comment on US law if he won’t comment on a Muslim country’s law? The papacy is now a shambles filled with many poisonous men. They do not protect their own. Shameful.

So Jules, here’s my small contribution.

In the year ending December 2025 seven inmates were murdered in British prisons. In 2024 the number was six. It is impossible to obtain an accurate figure for the number of people killed in American prisons but a conservative estimate for prisoners killed in a single jail, Rikers Island in New York, runs at an average of ten per year.

The idea that we are able to incarcerate dangerous people safely even in maximum security prisons is a complete nonsense.

I have never warmed to the idea of state vengeance in the form of the death penalty but having met a couple of people who have killed in prison I have never believed in wholly safe incarceration either. Prison officers are sometimes the victims in prison murder and I have never felt comfortable with the level of risk that we ask such people to run.

And terrorist murderers often enjoy a kind of celebrity status among the incarcerated. Who would have wanted Jihadi John running round HMP Belmarsh ‘bigging himself up’? Not me.

Others have dealt with the dodgy theology of Francis and Leo, folk much better qualified to offer an opinion than me though from what I’ve read I think folk like Robert Gagnon have got it right. And assuming that we are in agreement then I think we have the ‘popesplainer’ on our side which is encouraging.

All the best,

Tim.

An American pope was a mistake.

There is the law of this world and the law of Heaven. Capital punishment is just one of many responses to behavior in this world. If you believe in 2 worlds, then death in this world does not abrogate a life in the world to come as judged by God. If you believe in only one world, then you're SOL, in more ways than just this.

Strike 1: force Benedict to "retire" as his focus was on the importance of national sovereignty in preventing a rebirth of communism in Europe. Strike 2: elect two consecutive Popes who support jihadism. Is Strike 3 needed or has Rome been conquered already? Pope Leo has cancer, grounds for retirement. Note to remember:

Sultan Suleiman I - Suleiman the Magnificent- instructed his successors to continue efforts to conquer Rome. Hence the role of Turkey as the moderator of preaching in mosques across Europe in modern times. We can see that the global elites are fulfilling Suleiman's will that Roman Empire be rebirthed under Ottoman rule. They envision themselves enriched beyond comprehension. The reason the open borders policies have been intensified in the last couple of years by a slacking border enforcement and the millhouse of citizenship grants is to complete the project by 2037 at the latest. Search the importance of year 1537 & Italy & France in the project:

The 1537 attack on Corfu was part of Suleiman the Magnificent's broader strategy to expand Ottoman influence into Italy, aiming to support a Franco-Ottoman alliance against Charles V's territories. The siege was intended to secure a base for further military operations towards Rome, but ultimately failed when the Ottomans could not capture the island.
